Finding Nemo a Home

February 29, 2016     |     PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE     |     URGENT:  Finding Nemo a Home – the Story of a Special Rescue

Nemo is an adorable Wire Haired Terrier-Bassett mix rescue pup that needed a fur-ever home.  What is different about Nemo is that he is a special needs puppy with a physical disability which made it more difficult to find a family who would be willing to adopt him.

His right front leg did not properly develop in the womb so it is deformed and basically useless.  In the future, Nemo will have to have his leg amputated.

Nemo’s disability is no obstacle for his sweet spirit and the ability to be a great family member.  He needed pet parents that would give him special attention in the beginning so he could learn to be the perfect best friend.

Nemo’s story:  Georgia Clarity, client of Just Happy Hounds, LLC – Midtown doggie daycare and boarding facility, saw a Facebook post from a man in Guntersville around Valentine’s Day who said that he had a puppy with a right leg deformity that needed to be picked up within 24 hours or he would be “put down”.  Georgia arranged for the pickup and when she arrived, the man was wanting money for the dog.

Although Georgia normally did not give people money for picking up a homeless dog, she felt in her spirit that she needed to give this guy something to retrieve the dog and get him out of a bad situation.  Georgia brought Nemo home and connected with Tonya Reid, another Just Happy Hounds client, to foster him until he could be placed in a forever home and a Facebook page was created, “Finding Nemo a Home”.

Georgia & Nemo

As Georgia stated on Nemo’s Facebook page, “Nemo is a special needs pup, pulled from a risky situation.  He is perfect despite a leg deformity that will require an amputation next month.  With experience in placing tripods, we are confident that he will flourish.  We, as a family, have 2 amputee rescues and Nemo is already very special to us.  He appears to be a Wire Haired Terrier/Bassett mix with a clean bill of health and is around 3 months old.

Tripods do not require as much attention as most people think.  This boy has had a rough start, but things are looking up.  Could Nemo complete your family?  It is our hope to raise awareness for special needs/amputees and how awesome they are.  In the process, we hope to find Nemo’s happy ending.”

People immediately began following Nemo’s story on Facebook and with every photo or video posted of him, love just began to pour out from everyone.  Nemo was an instant celebrity!

Tonya began working with Nemo on house training and other behavioral training while Nemo continued to be a precious cuddly puppy with lots of love.

Nemo was enrolled in doggie daycare at Just Happy Hounds and began his assimilation with other dogs as well as his dog training.  Sarah Mills, General Manager, fell in love with Nemo as soon as she laid eyes on him.

Nemo and Brother Rowdy

Within 5 days of being rescued, Nemo had found his fur-ever home.  It was official – he was now Nemo Mills with a brother named Rowdy and a sister named Kelsi!

Nemo is definitely soaking up all of the love from his new pet parents, Sarah and Jeff Mills, and making up for lost time.  He is settling in quite well!

Nemo has just assumed the responsibility at Just Happy Hounds of their Security Officer in Training.  He will have big shoes to fill as their Chief Security Officer, Frankie G, just moved to Nashville.

Everyone that comes in contact with Nemo falls in love with him.  Because people want to keep up with what’s going on with Nemo, his Facebook page will soon transition from “Finding Nemo a Home” to “Following Nemo”.  We invite you to join his page and continue following his story.

Sarah would like to express a special thank you to Georgia Clarity and Tonya Reid for making it possible for Nemo to find a home.

Just Happy Hounds, LLC – Midtown is not just a doggie daycare, boarding, grooming and training facility, it’s a family.  Staff members love and care for the dogs as if they owned them personally and they love their dog owners.  It is a fun and safe place for dogs to play while their owners are busy working or out of town.  It is also a place where your pup can get a “new do” and training.

Their resort training program can enable any pup to receive regular training while they are attending doggie daycare to help their owners achieve the level of obedience desired.

There are so many rescues today that need homes with families who will love and care for them.  There are a large number of special needs rescues with physical or emotional disabilities and we invite you to learn more about adopting a special needs canine.  Help us spread the word that these pups can be great pets and need loving homes to shelter them from abuse and neglect.

Just Happy Hounds invites you to visit the Greater Birmingham Humane Society website at www.gbhs.org to learn more about special needs rescues and dog adoption.
