A new strain of Canine Influenza has been infecting thousands of dogs across the Midwest. The new strain of Canine Influenza began infecting canines in the Chicago area and since January has spread into Wisconsin, Indiana and Ohio.
Transmission is through respiratory secretions and contaminated objects.
Symptoms of Canine Influenza include a strong persistent cough, poor appetite, runny nose and high fever.
Health experts in the Veterinary industry advise pet owners in the affected areas to vaccinate against the flu. In addition, they recommend that dogs in the affected areas avoid contact with other dogs.
